The business school IMD Lausanne recently published the World Talent Ranking 2019. Switzerland takes first place.

The IMD World Talent Ranking scores countries across three factors of investment and development, readiness and appeal. In the three categories, the countries' performance in different areas is evaluated. These include education, training, in-company training, language skills, cost of living, quality of life and salaries.

First place

As in the previous year, Switzerland took first place, followed by Denmark, Sweden, Austria and Luxembourg. Singapore is the only country outside Europe to be in the top 10. Compared to the previous year, Sweden has gained five places - also because it invests more in education.

These are Switzerland's strengths

According to the IMD, Switzerland is currently a leader in the areas of apprenticeships and university and management education. Switzerland also ranks first in the following areas: attractiveness, remuneration and health infrastructure. This attracts urgently needed highly qualified foreign workers - because here too Switzerland is (still) number one.

These are Switzerland's weaknesses

Switzerland's cost of living is one of the highest, at 58th place. Only just five countries have even higher costs - including Japan and Hong Kong. In the area of "Pupil-teacher ratio in primary and secondary schools", Switzerland ranks 32nd and 29th respectively in the middle range.

The end of the Ranking

The end of the ranking is dominated by Mexico, Brazil Venezuela and Mongolia.
